Cooking yellow ochre to get red ochre
As natural red ochres are considered drab, they are only used for manufacturing red pigment. For this purpose, it is preferable to cook yellow ochre. Baked in a tunnel oven, the calcined yellow ochre turns red with a wide range of colour nuances according to the degree of baking and its original hue.
