The use of ochre
Its oldest use is that of a colouring pigment, since prehistory. From the XIXth century onwards, ochre started being used in paints, distempers and, especially owing to its clay-like consistency, it is used as a thickener or "filler". We find it in rubber, linoleum, bicycle inner tubes, amongst other items.
