The Ochre quarry in Gargas

The Gargas quarry is the last ocher quarry still operating in France by the SOF (Society of Ochre of France).
It produces about 800 tons per year of ochre, sold 95% in the construction sector and 50% exported to black Africa for whitewash houses.
In Gargas, you’ll find also the “Mines de Bruoux” which are former ochre underground quarries.
