Ochre in France, and internationally

Ochre is known to exist on all the continents, but ochre deposits that are mined are much rarer. Deposits are known to exist in Cyprus, Spain, Sweden, India, the United States, South Africa and France, which has remained the key producer of ochre.
In France, the main outcrops are found in Burgundy, some in Gard and in the Vaucluse.
