The Bruoux Mines
The Anselme family started mining these quarries in 1884, using two mining techniques: open-cast and in galleries. Ochrous sand was loaded with shovels into carts called "tombereaux" in French, and pulled by Percheron horses to the washing site. The horses were a precious asset to the transporters.
